The ramblings of a wife and mom of two...and oh yes, a Billy Joel fan!

Hoping for a win...

Headed for the first game of the playoffs today. Very excited and very anxious. I think we can win if we can overcome last weeks loss. We lost to our biggest rivals, Orem HS. It was a heart breaker too! They were a little weak in the first half but came on strong in the second half and was within a touchdown and TWICE in the last 2 minutes we had opportunities to score. The first one failed when one of our star players was stripped of the ball on the 2 yard line, the ball actually fumbled into the end zone and Orem recovered. It was so sad. That poor player, despite an awesome game I'm sure he cried for 2 hours after the game. He is a senior and we haven't beat Orem since he was a freshman so this game meant the world to him.

The second opportunity came on a pass down the side line and their player dove for it and actually caught it on the bounce (according to the coaches and many eye witnesses) and debatably in or out of bounds and it was ruled an interception. Heart breaker # 2! Text-guy was sad all evening. We all were! It's so hard to go right down to the line like that and have hope and then lose.

Anyway, we're on our way to East HS in SLC to play them in the first round of the playoffs. Their record is only one win better than ours and so we're hoping to win and progress through the playoffs. Our guys have sure come a long way this year. It's been a lot of fun and I hope it doesn't end today!

It's been another busy week. I took off part of Wednesday and went to Layton to meet my mom and my BFF Sis to do some shopping. We remodeled mom's bathroom earlier this year and now we're on to mom and dad's bedroom. It should be a lot easier than the bathroom because the biggest project in the bedroom is pulling up the carpet and finishing the hardwood floor underneath-cake compared to ripping out tile, putting up bead board wainscoting, painting, tiling the floor, a new tub skirting and of course-accessorizing! Anyway, we shopped for new linens and mom was in a shopping mood and I think we actually may have found 'the one' despite how elusive it can be sometimes. We had lunch at TGI Fridays and got mom a new cell phone. It was a good day.

Last Sunday I had to speak in church! It went okay I suppose but a little intimidating because the other speaker was a missionary leaving for his mission so the entire stake presidency was there! At least the stake president is a huge Billy Joel fan like myself and also a really cool guy. Just glad it's over!

Gotta jet-game time is approaching! A little Billy to finish on....'everything revolves on what you do, you are in your prime, you've come of age. You can always have your way some how, cause everybody loves you now.' that's for Text Guy hope it's true today!

Sally and Armida at the aquarium
Petting the sting rays, it took Armida an hour to get up the courage

We found Nemo and Marlin! Of course they were with Dory!

Done deal!

Well, it's a done deal. I have my tickets for Billy Joel! Nov 29th at Energy Solutions Arena. I went for the cheaper seats so we're in the upper deck but front row and we have binoculars and it will be on the JumboTron too so it will be great. We're thinking of making a night of it and staying over in SLC that night. Wish I could find out what hotel Billy is staying at. I heard once he came down to the lobby late at night after a concert in Vegas and just played the piano. What an awesome experience that would be! I've always wanted to meet him. Not in the crazy fan sort of way, just a hi how are ya sort of way. I think it would be fun to just kick back and chat with him about his music. I even had a dream once that he visited my house and that's just what we did, sat back and chatted about music and then he played MY piano! He played Vienna which is one of my all time favorites of his music. That's one dream I was very sad to wake up from. He was such a cool guy in my dream! Maybe some day I will meet him. I never thought I'd see him at Madison Square Garden and that happened so hey! I guess anything is possible. :)

I had a good weekend. I took Friday off and took Sally and her friend Armida to the Aquarium. It was small but still fun. They petted the sting rays forever! Sally was soaking wet by the time we left. Then we stopped at the outlet stores and exchanged some things I had bought for Sally and looked around a bit. Then it was a late lunch at Weinersnitzel and home. It was a fun day.

I spent Saturday in Morgan helping mom and dad. We cleaned closets and it was quite fun. I got a great rain coat and a new temple dress and some other things too. It was a bit of a walk down memory lane as we found a lot of my old stuff. Some I wondered why I ever kept it and others brought back great memories. I found my stuffed kitty that I LOVED as a child. All the fur was rubbed off except a little on the tail and on the ears. It's eyes are gone and there are several stitch lines where mom repaired it over the years. It looks kind of scary now and I think it's time to throw it away but I brought it home to show my kids first. Sally said, "that's really cute mom" with a weird look on her face and I said 'no it's not it's scary!' and she breathed a sigh of relief and said she was trying to be nice! It was sweet of her to respect my old favorite kitty. Text-guy just laughed and couldn't believe I had kept it all these years.

Anyway, we got a lot done and mom feels all fresh and renewed. The floor of her bedroom closet isn't carpeted so it gave us a good idea of what we're going to find under the carpet. It looks good. The wood is nice and tight and I think it will sand and finish up just great. I'm starting to get anxious to get it going.

Enough for now. A little Billy to finish on... From Vienna, 'you've got so much to do and only so many hours in a day...'

Ahhhh, the winning feeling

Yes folks, that's right we won again! JV beat Payson in a real nail bitter 21-20 and it was down to the last seconds before it was in the bag. It was fun to watch but a little scary too! Text-guy played great and felt good about the game. Then, last night we won the varsity game against Payson 35-14. There were some beautiful plays that I wish I could have seen the replays on. Text-guy got to play at the end with pretty much the whole JV squad and he escorted TJ to within a foot of the goal line. The clock ran out or I'm sure we would have scored. It was great.

The weekend was pretty good. I was wrong about Sally's surprise though, she wasn't cleaning the house for me, she was cleaning her bedroom-and rearranging it. What you have to understand is that Sally is a pack rat and a scatterbug. Her room is a huge mess most of the time and she keeps everything! So cleaning her room, at least the kind of cleaning that allows the moving of furniture is a monumental feat! It WAS NOT what I had planned for the weekend and at age 11 she can't see the end from the beginning and started a project that she could not finish-at least not alone. Text-guy texted me and warned me not to come home-said I would not be happy with what I found but that she and her friends were trying to do a good thing but that the house was turned upside down. Well, I kept my cool--for a while! When I did yell, it wasn't about the mess, it was about Sally's attitude and reluctance to do the simple things I asked and then expecting me to accommodate her plans for the weekend! I have such a problem with ingratitude and refusal to see how good life is! Oh well, it all worked out in the end and we've slowly been putting her room back together this week. It's still not done but looking better and we got rid of quite a bit of junk. Why you have to keep lids to chapsticks long since lost or gone I do not know but I did manage to rid her of some things.

I got great news this past week! Billy Joel is coming to Salt Lake on Nov 29th! I'm going of course and can't wait! I'm hoping for decent tickets but we'll see, I know they'll go fast, he always sells out. I didn't even know he was touring again. I'd like to win the tickets and there is a contest on the radio right now to win them-just complete the lyric and be the 10th caller. Completing the lyric-no problem! being the 10th caller-big problem. How do people do it?

I'll finish with the lyric to complete they gave this morning, from 'Movin' Out' ... 'working too hard can give you a ______' HEART ATTACK! Duh!

Homecoming....

It's been crazy busy-as usual- the past week or so. So much so that I forgot to send a birthday greeting to one of my best friends! He forgave me and welcomed it a day late but that's just how busy it's been. We go non stop but there's always more to do. Oh well! The big event of the past week or so was Homecoming for Text-Guy. His first real date. He wasn't really planning on going, he was even scheduled to work but Brittany changed his mind. She's the sister of one of his best friends and he has spent a lot of time around her and they are already good friends. Well, Brittany was going to the dance with her boyfriend Chance and a week before homecoming they broke up. (I learned later from a reliable source that they broke up because Brittany decided she liked Text-guy better!) She came crying to Text-guy about how her parents had spent all this money on the dress and everything and would he please take her. I think Text-guy is a little sweet (old fashioned word-I know!) on her anyway so he worked things around so that he could take her. He was sure this required a suit and his dad's green one just wouldn't do so we went suit shopping-with 4 friends in tow! It was kind of fun and I enjoyed getting to know his friends a little better. Joel said it was okay because I'm not an "embarrassing" parent and his friends already like me and Bri-guy. He wanted a black suit and we found one he liked at the first place and Brittany picked out a tie to match. See pictures to follow.
Text-guy's JV team lost their game but Varsity won-big! So he got to play a bit and had a lot of fun. He worked some on Saturday and then came home and quickly got ready. I think that's the fastest shower I've ever seen him take! He looked sharp and was anxious to get going. He was much more excited than he let on. Anyway, they went to Outback for dinner and then to the dance. There were 10 in their group and I think they had a really good time. He came home on time and very happy. I'm glad his 'first date' was a good experience. He wasn't too crazy about what it cost him but I know he enjoyed the evening and will soon forget the cost. He loves his new suit so he at least gets something long term out of it! Sooooo, here's a few pictures.

In his suit ready to go...

With his date at her house...

The whole group.

He's kind of tall huh? And Brittany is short! oh well, they're still a cute couple.

It's Friday afternoon and almost quitting time. I'm excited for the weekend for lots of reasons. It may snow tomorrow and crazy as it sounds, I LOVE SNOW! It will definitely snow in the mountains. It's only 4:45 and it's already so dark looking outside and getting colder by the minute. It will be a perfect weekend for snuggling down and watching conference which is another thing I am looking forward to this weekend. I love to listen to our leaders and it lifts me up so much. It's sometimes overwhelming but so I just try to concentrate on the good spirit that prevails and enjoy that. I'm sure there will some little nuggets of stuff in it just for me. Also, I can't sit and watch in a mess so I'm going to clean house tonight but I may get a bit of a break on that because Sally just called and told me not to come home for a while because she and her friends are working on a surprise for me. I'm pretty sure they are cleaning the house. It's very sweet of her and I'm just going to smile and be grateful even if things may not be done up to my standard. It's really sweet of her, she knows I wanted to get it done tonight.

We're going to Morgan on Sunday and that will be fun and lastly Monday is Columbus Day-one of my favorite holidays because I get it off work but my kids have to go to school! Sounds selfish I know but it's fun to have a day all to myself. I'll either go shopping with Jo or lay around and read all day! Both sound heavenly! Now if only Monday weren't 'early out' for the kids!

This was waaay to long for one day so I'll leave you with a little Billy and go home for the weekend! "I've loved these days..."
